Those shopping around for a luxury coupe are going to want more than just a peppy engine and a nicely designed interior. The price paid must translate to other rewards as well, and these include a stylish appearance, plenty of standard high-tech and safety systems, and lots of trim and package options. The 2019 INFINITI Q60 delivers on all fronts.
The competing 2019 Lexus RC offers a lot too, but it lags behind the Q60 when it comes to available power, road performance, and functional interior design. The RC, which is offered in both 300 and 350 versions, also limits the buyer’s choice of trims. Below, the differences between these two models are detailed further.
Perfomance
The 2019 INFINITI Q60 base engine is a turbocharged 3.0L V6 rated at 300 horsepower. It’s mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission, and rear-wheel drive is standard. All-wheel drive is optional on all trims. The Red Sport 400 comes with a more powerful V6, one that produces a total of 400 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. This model also features sport-tuned suspension, so it’s the one to consider if high-speed driving on the winding byways is in the forecast. The direct adaptive steering system is available on the Red Sport 400. The Lexus RC 300 gets a four-cylinder engine rated at 241 horsepower and rear-wheel drive as one option, and an all-wheel drive version that comes with a 260-horsepower V6 is another option. Both engines deliver less power than what one gets with the Q60, and the all-wheel version has a rather outdated six-speed transmission.
Interior Design
These are luxury coupes, but the 2019 INFINITI Q60 comes out a bit ahead of the Lexus RC models in the areas of interior design and utility. The RC has a very small trunk that can’t handle much besides an overnight duffel and a sack of groceries. The rear seating area can accommodate two small children so long as they’re basically snuggling each other. The 2019 INFINITI Q60 has large doors for easy entry and exit, and the front seats are comfortable and firm. The cabin is well-built with lots of absorption points, so bumps in the road are hardly noticed. The base trim has simulated leather upholstery and power-adjustable front seats. The 2019 RC models have comfortable front seats, but they’re really tight for larger folks. The base trim comes with heated seats only if the all-wheel drive version is chosen.
Trim Options
The INFINITI Q60 comes in three trim levels, and the distinctions between the three are straightforward. The mid-level 3.0t Luxe adds on a sunroof, a Bose stereo system, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. This trim also gets HD radio and several safety systems not found on the base trim. The Red Sport 400 comes with the more powerful engine, sport front seats, and performance tires. It also includes all of the features of the Essential and Leather Seating packages. The 2019 Lexus RC 300 and 350 models come in only two trims, and the base trim lacks a power tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, driver seat memory settings, and sport front seats. Also, the package options for the RC models vary depending on the regional location of the dealership.
