As relatively new entries into the compact luxury four-door sedan segment, the INFINITI Q50 and Acura TLX have garnered significant amounts of attention with their sporty profiles, generous list of standard features, and high levels of comfortability. The 2020 model year finds both nameplates still in their first production cycles—with few, if any, changes from the previous year. Although either of them will be a fine choice, there are three main reasons why you should choose the 2020 INFINITI Q50 over its Acura counterpart.

Drivetrain Choices

Each car offers a choice between two drivetrains: a two-wheel drive and an all-wheel drive. With the engine placed in the front, the manner of two-wheel drive available on each nameplate impacts their handling on the road. On the INFINITI Q50, the two-wheel drivetrain sends engine power to the rear wheels. The resulting front-engine rear-wheel-drive layout means that there is a more even distribution of vehicle weight from front to back, thereby providing better balance on the road. By comparison, the two-wheel drivetrain on the Acura TLX sends engine power to the front wheels, resulting in a front-engine front-wheel-drive layout. Ultimately, the Q50 will provide better, more stable cornering, turning, and braking than the TLX.

Max Engine Output

As luxury vehicles that provides considerable performance specs, both the 2020 INFINITI Q50 and the 2020 Acura TLX provide powertrains to bring the best accelerating ability out of them. On the Q50, you can spring for its Red Sport 400 variant, which has a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine that is tweaked to produce 400 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. On the TLX, you can opt for a 3.5-liter V6. However, at an output of 290 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque, the Acura vehicle provides 60 less horsepower and 83 less lb-ft of torque.

Infotainment Interface

For its infotainment interface, the 2020 Acura TLX gets the On Demand Multi-Use Display, or ODMD. This interface is a color touchscreen that provides all the controls needed without crowding the dashboard with too many buttons. Although a fine interface, the Acura TLX’s ODMD is surpassed by the Q50’s INFINITI InTouch dual display system, which consists of LCD/VGA 8-inch upper and 7-inch lower color touchscreens. The InTouch separates the car’s various functions by displaying turn-by-turn navigations and multimedia controls on the upper 8-inch touchscreen and projecting various apps from the lower 7-inch touchscreen.
