The 2017 INFINITI Q70 and Q50 sedans aren’t really rivals. They complement each other by offering variety in size and performance without asking you to compromise on quality or technology. These two premium rides offer lots of luxury and amenities.
Performance
Two turbos power the Q50. On the base edition, the hard-working engine delivers 208 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. If you want more, you can step up to the exciting V6 turbo. This three-liter engine kicks out 300 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. For driving enthusiasts who still need more, the 2017 INFINITI Q50 Red Sport delivers a one-two punch with 400 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. Adaptive digital steering eliminates the mechanical relay and uses an electronic one instead. Your steering input delivers precise instructions directly to the car wheels. A test drive is a good way to feel how much sharper and more accurate this steering really is.
Since it is a bigger sedan, the Q70 has a more powerful V6 engine. Drivers command 330 horsepower and 270 lb.-ft. of torque. Next up, the Q70 offers a 420-horsepower engine. This smart unit kicks out 417 lb.-ft. of torque. Rear-wheel drive adds to the sporty feel, although you can also opt for all-wheel drive. A seven-speed automatic transmission controls the gears with precision. The Sport package equips the sedan with larger brakes, bigger wheels, and a sport-tuned suspension. Last but not least, INFINITI is offering a 360-horsepower hybrid edition.
Powertrain And Performance
The 2017 Q50 2.0t models are powered by a 2.0L turbocharged engine that puts out a total of 208 horsepower. The 3.0t versions have a 3.0L turbocharged engine that makes 300 horsepower, and the Red Sport 400 has a more powerful V6 that produces 400 horsepower. Seven-speed automatic transmission is the only choice, but buyers can choose either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. The 2018 models are listed according to their engine displacement, similar to the 2017 versions. The 300-horsepower engines are twin-turbo design. Performance packages include the addition of Dynamic Digital Suspension and larger, more efficient performance brakes.
Choosing a Size
The Q50 is a small sedan with a big backseat. Leatherette upholstery covers the seats. Dual screens are ready to put information and entertainment at your fingertips. INFINITI InTouch includes HD radio and Bluetooth streaming audio. Other standards include a rearview camera, automatic climate control, and the Intelligent Key with push button start. As you climb the trim ladder you pick up many of the features you will find on the Q70.
Moving you even more upscale, Q70 cabins have handsome interiors with features such as Japanese ash wood trim and leather upholstery. Ten-way power chairs have an entry assist for the driver. Climate-controlled seats give you heat and ventilation at the touch of a button. A ten-speaker Bose stereo enhances your sound. Fine Vision instrumentation offers the perfect view day or night. Navigation with lane guidance is added as part of a no-cost upgrade on the base Q70.
Safety
Both the INFINITI Q50 and Q70 offer advanced safety systems. The forward collision system keeps an eye out for trouble, watching several car lengths further than the standard system on rival vehicles. An automatic brake system can reduce stopping times. Active Lane Control helps the driver stay straight in the lane by countering strong crosswinds. On uneven roads, it helps correct the car’s trajectory. Parking assistance comes from a rear cross traffic alert and an exclusive backup collision intervention system. It may brake during reverse to stop the car from hitting an obstacle. A bird’s eye camera with moving object detection is standard on the Q70 and available on the Q50.
