The 2018 INFINITI Q50 is a sporty sedan that's aggressive, efficient and luxurious. The Volvo S60 is a premium sedan that also offers high-end amenities. Both vehicles are available with turbocharged engines that deliver superb performance. However, the Q50's turbo V6 engine is more powerful than the S60's supercharged powertrain. The Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD) and Drive Mode Selector give this INFINITI a major advantage in terms of handling.

With 10 paint options to choose from, customizing the Q50 should be fun. Some of the striking color choices include Dynamic Sunstone Red, Iridium Blue and Mocha Almond. LED lights, crescent-shaped windows and sculpted contours give this sedan a contemporary and sleek appearance.

The 3.0 L V6 engine in the 2018 INFINITI Q50 is capable of whipping out 400 horsepower. Twin turbochargers propel this six-cylinder engine that's rated at 350 lb-ft of torque. Despite having a supercharger, the Volvo S60's V6 engine only offers a maximum of 362 hp and 347 lb-ft of torque. An efficient and powerful hybrid powertrain is also available for the Q50 model. The net output of the hybrid system is 360 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. A lithium-ion battery works with an electric motor to provide alternative energy input depending on driving conditions. A hybrid model is not available in the lineup of the Volvo S60.

Besides being more powerful and efficient, the 2018 INFINITI Q50 is also more versatile than the Volvo S60. A complicated algorithm controls the shifting patterns of the Q50's seven-speed automatic transmission system. Each move is precisely monitored and managed by the Adaptive Shift Control technology. The Downshift Rev Matching comes on when there's a need to calibrate the gear settings in response to minor changes on the road. Additionally, the electronically controlled transmission in this INFINITI can be set to run on a manual mode. Although it's sophisticated by modern measures, the S60's Geartronic automatic transmission fails to match some of the dynamic capabilities of the Q50's transmission. Standard in each trim, the INFINITI Drive Mode Selector adds several modes that facilitate handling in common situations. The Intelligent All-Wheel Drive keeps the vehicle rolling on the intended path. This patented drivetrain can automatically vary the torque distribution between the axles. Optional in select Q50 trims, the Direct Adaptive Steering corrects swaying, swerving and other erratic motion on the road.

Trim Options

The 2018 INFINITI Q50 offers six trims that are designed to satisfy the demand for various levels of technology, performance and comfort. Each model can be equipped with the AWD, and select editions come standard with rear-wheel drive. The 2.0t Pure base edition is loaded with advanced entry-level amenities. Upgrade to the RED SPORT 400 and you’ll get exceptional road performance. The Hybrid Luxe will give you a fuel economy of 27 city / 32 highway, keeping you on the road and making less trips to the gas station. Priced at over $60,000, the Polestar is the most expensive trim in the Volvo S60's roster that offers features and specifications that fall behind from the INFINITI Q50. Overall, the Q50 offers better initial and long-term value for much lower costs.
